Sondra Pacey - Director

Sondra Pacey is a product of the Southeast District. Sondra grew up playing ice hockey for the Montgomery County boys’ programs in Rockville, Maryland. In High School, Sondra played for the 19U Girls’ organization now known as the Washington Pride. Mentored by Kush Sidhu, Sondra went on to play her Freshman year at Mercyhurst College and then transferred to complete her career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Sondra was a two-sport captain at RPI playing both field hockey and ice hockey.

After college, Sondra quickly jumped into coaching with the boys’ OYHA travel organization. Sondra coached and trained a handful of players who are now playing at the NCAA level. In 2010, Sondra was selected to be an intern coach at the U14 USA Hockey Girls’ National Player Development Camp.

Sondra is currently in her 17th year working as an instructor at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den (Home of the Orlando Express). Sondra is the head power skating coach and leads learn to skate/play classes, youth and adult clinics and is also a lesson instructor. Sondra is currently the Orlando Express Program Director and a head coach for both the 12U and 15U Orlando Express teams.

Sondra’s passion for the game has lead her to create the Orlando Express Girls’ Hockey Program for the local girls in the Orlando area. Sondra welcomes you to join and help Orlando Express grow as we build a place for girls to play competitive hockey in the state of Florida.

Megan Mascarenhas - Assistant Director

Megan has been a coach with Orlando Express since 2017 and has served as Assistant Director since 2019. She has also been on the RDV coaching staff since 2017, working with players from age three to adults in Learn to Skate, Learn to Play, and House League programs. Growing up, Coach Megan played recreational roller hockey. After completing graduate school, she decided to make the jump to ice hockey and never looked back! Her passion is to help young girls fall in love with hockey and to build character and develop skills - like discipline, tenacity, and teamwork - that will serve them well in every aspect of life!

Bill Alcabes - Operations Manager

Coach Bill Alcabes brings endless energy and dedication to growing the sport of hockey. For more than a decade, he's developed beginners into AA and AAA players. He's also helped build teams and programs. Last year alone he coached two championship teams for The Express, and he served as an assistant coach on a coed team that brought home two tournament trophies. Bill's teams also won two house league championships.

Coach Bill credits a lot of his success to his education in psychology. He has used his background to help train and motivate young people to reach their potential. He is always looking for ways of teaching players how to take that crucial next step in their growth. He is even working on a big brother/sister program in which interested players can develop into student coaches and referees.

His newest contribution to hockey is as an operations manager responsible for building relationships in the girls hockey community enabling the sport to grow exponentially in the southeast!

Mike Young - Coach

Coach Mike Young started coaching hockey in 2016 when his middle daughter Sydney hung up her figure skates and signed up for the Mites program at the RDV. Since then, Young has coached countless House League teams and travel programs at 8U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 19U

Coach Young is going into his third SGHL season as the co-head coach of the 19U Orlando Express.

In addition to coaching the Express, Young is heading into his second season coaching the CFHC 12U Bears. Before joining the Bears as head coach in 2021-22, he had been an assistant coach the previous two seasons with the 10A Swamp Rabbits and 10A Bears.

Last season, his first as head coach, Young guided the 12U A2 CFHC Bears to a first overall SAHOF record of 17-1, with two additional tournament wins, and appearances in three other tournament finals including SAHOF.

Young first developed his love for the game in his hometown of St. Louis when Brett Hull and Adam Oates lit up the NHL. He played club roller and ice hockey at the University of Missouri. His career highlight is scoring a goal from Mario Lemieux (*In Fantasy Camp).
